This painting illustrates the appreciation and fascination the Native Americans had with material items from other people or cultures as is common with the human family. My model depicts a young Plateau girl, wearing a wool dress decorated with ribbons that were traded from the Europeans and the dentalium shells for ornamentation came from the coastal tribes. The beautiful San Ildefonso Pueblo Wedding Vase in this painting was a gift to the new bride to be.
